The latest release of Visual RPG 9.0 for Visual Studio also installs a technology preview of a Database Management suite; DataGate Studio. It's future intention is to be a replacement for the current Database Manager. You can begin to look at, and even use DataGate Studio, even though ASNA Database Manager is still being installed. Note that in a future release of ASNA Visual RPG (such as 9.1 or 9.2), the current ASNA Database Manager will no longer be available.
OLE Print Files
Acceler8DB/DataGate
OLE print files are not directly accessible in DataGate Studio. However,
.NET print files are fully supported, and DataGate Studio provides an upgrade
assistance tool to simplify migration of OLE print files to .NET print files.
This tool is automatically invoked when a user accesses an OLE print file
definition in DataGate Studio.
It is important to note that the migration tool converts OLE print file
definitions to the new generation .NET print file definition schema. The
conversion function is one-way only; there is no tool available for converting a
.NET print file definition back to an OLE print file. Users dependent upon
OLE print files must use the Acceler8DB Print File manager before
migrating their print files to .NET.
DataGate Archive Files
Acceler8DB/DataGate
archive files (.dga files) are not available for use in DataGate Studio.
DataGate studio provides an import/export tool which replaces the archive file
format with a superior client-based XML format. The old archive format is not
compatible with this tool. Users currently dependent on .dga archive files
must continue to use Acceler8DB Database Manager.
The help file for DataGate Studio within Visual Studio is not available at this time. However, the latest information is available within various .pdf files, and can be accessed from the DataGate Studio web page at:
